 Ruby's Ambition - FAQs

Products

Where are your products made?

We source our products from various jewellery suppliers, both domestic and overseas. [ top ]

What does ‘S925’ mean on my jewellery?

When you see a small stamp that says ‘S925’ on your jewellery, it means your jewellery was made of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals such as copper. By combining silver with other metals, it gives the jewellery the desirable shine, strength and durability, which 100% silver alone would otherwise be too soft to wear as a jewellery. [ top ]

Is your jewellery sustainable?

We consider our products sustainable. When we choose our products, we’re conscious about the materials used and where they come from. The majority of our products are made of recyclable materials such as copper, brass, titanium, stainless steel and aluminium. Our most-used material S925 Sterling Silver is no different as it is made of silver and copper which can completely be recycled. Majority of our products are also man-made or farmed. [ top ]

Will your jewellery tarnish?

The common metals used in our products are S925 Sterling Silver, copper, brass, titanium, stainless steel, and a smaller percentage of aluminium. These metals are what make our jewellery beautiful, strong and durable. While titanium, stainless steel and aluminium are extremely resistant to corrosion and tarnishing, copper and brass are more susceptible, and because S925 Sterling Silver is made of 7.5% metal like copper, this also makes S925 Sterling Silver more susceptible to tarnishing. However, with proper care, our jewellery can last for many years. Follow our Product Care Guide to slow down the natural process of tarnishing. [ top ]

Why do the freshwater pearls I received look different from the ones I ordered?

Freshwater pearls are naturally occurring. Freshwater mussels produce pearls the same way saltwater oysters do. However, freshwater mussels are known to produce unique pearls that come in a vast variety of size and shape as a result of mantle tissue nucleating, instead of bead nucleating. In fact, over 90% of freshwater pearls are baroque. This uniqueness is what makes freshwater pearls special. This is why, when you choose our jewellery made of baroque freshwater pearls, there’s a chance that the one you receive will look slightly different, as each of the freshwater baroque pearls is quite unique and different from others. [ top ]

What are farmed freshwater pearls?

Farmed freshwater pearls are pearls that are farmed and created using freshwater molluscs such as freshwater mussels. Freshwater mussels produce pearls, the same way natural pearls are produced, by secreting layers of nacre as their defence mechanism when an irritant enters their shell. In freshwater pearls farming, a small irritant is introduced in the mussels’ mantle tissue to stimulate the process of pearls making. [ top ]

Are Cubic Zirconia gemstones?

Yes, they are man-made gemstones, made of a crystalline form of a naturally occurring mineral called zirconium dioxide. [ top ]

How can I tell what ring size I need?

Best way is to measure the inner diameter of the ring that you already own and feel comfortable wearing. Once you have the diameter, you can compare it against the diameter list on our conversion chart here. If you want your new ring to fit on a different finger, you can find out the ring size by measuring the circumference of your finger. You can do this by wrapping a string or a strip of paper around the base of your finger, marking where the string/paper first overlap each other, and then measuring the length. Here you’ll have the circumference of your finger, which you can then compare against the list on our conversion chart. Remember to allow a little bit of space for the ring to pass through your knuckle as well. [ top ]

What does ‘adjustable’ ring mean?

An adjustable ring is a ring that has either a small opening or a sliding overlap end that allows you to adjust the size of the ring. Read more about 'Adjustable Rings' here. [ top ]

Does your pendant come with a chain?

Not all pendants at Ruby’s ambition come with a chain. When you see a pendant under our ‘Charms & Pendants’ collection, it means the charm or pendant is sold without a chain. If you are looking for a pendant with a chain, you can browse our ‘Necklaces’ collection and look for ‘Pendant Necklace’ type. [ top ]

How often do I need to clean my jewellery?

Generally, a little wiping with a soft, lint-free or chamois cloth after every use is all you need. When you feel your jewellery needs a deeper clean, you can clean them in a solution of warm water and soap (except for freshwater pearls, read about how to care for freshwater pearls here). Also, depending on the type of materials your jewellery is made of, for example, you may not want to polish your plated jewellery as often as an S925 Sterling Silver to prevent the plating wearing off too quickly. Read more about how to care for your particular type of jewellery here. [ top ]

How do I store my jewellery?

Depends on the type of metal used in the jewellery. Majority of them are best stored when not wearing, in an enclosed storage away from sunlight, heat, moisture and humidity, ideally individually or with the same type of metal/plating. Natural freshwater pearl jewellery, however, should be stored in a soft cloth or pouch and in a spot where it’s not too hot or too dry. Read more about how to care for specific types of jewellery here. [ top ]
